1. Classroom Facilities

1.1. Classroom Information

OIT offers many facilities and equipment for student, faculty, and staff usage throughout the campus. There are numerous computer labs across campus equipped with the latest word processing software as well as access to the Internet and other frequently used programs such as Moodle and Webmail.

The majority of all UVa-Wise classrooms are equipped with state of the art multimedia centers which include a computer, DVD player, projector, and other equipment. Instructors and students may use the equipment to enhance learning through integrating power point presentations and other interactive materials in the lesson plan.

IT Media Services has several multimedia centers located in various buildings on campus.  These workstations enhance the teaching and learning environment by allowing Faculty, Staff, and Students to incorporate various types of media into the classroom.  Scheduling of the classroom facilities is coordinated through the Office of the Registrar.

2. Computer Labs

2.1. Computer Lab Information

The University of Virginia's College at Wise Office of Information Technology provides students access to several computer labs across campus. We equip these labs with the software and hardware students need to complete assignments and projects as well as surf the internet and chat with friends.

Computer Lab Reservations
Instructors and other staff members can reserve OIT computer labs for events and other functions. Educational themed events get priority over generic events.  If you are interested in reserving a computer lab, please contact the Helpdesk for further information.

2.2. Darden Hall

Summary:

Supports computer science coursework in a multi-platform, TCP/IP network environment. Thirty-seven computers support programming languages such as Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Ada. The PCs give access to two Linux servers that provide various other programming languages including C, Pascal, and LiSP. Microsoft Office Professional, Mathematica, Minitab and the Internet may be accessed using the PCs. A scanner  and LaserJet printers are available for student use.

Summary:

Supports language and literature coursework with a network of 10 PC computers.

A multimedia center which includes a computer, VCR, DVD player, projector and other equipment.

Summary:

Supports students analyzing data with statistical software. Six PC computers are available.

3. Event Setup

3.1. Audio Visual Equipment

Audio visual equipment setup should be coordinated by contacting Media Services. 

Computer equipment setup is coordinated through the Helpdesk.
